About a year and a half ago, God put it in John’s heart that one day we’d have a bigger home so we could have more kids living with us. He wasn’t sure how or when that would play out, but from that time on he would randomly tell people, “We’re just waiting for God to give us a bigger house so we can have more kids.” One night in January he made that statement, and the people we were talking to asked, “What if you were given the keys to an orphanage?” WHAT? WHERE? HOW? The short answer is that there is a group of Christian physicians and business people in Knoxville, TN who have a heart to minister to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. They have built a facility in the Dominican town of Jimaní, right on the border with Haiti. On the property there is a hospital and an orphanage. These buildings also allow for short term mission team housing and a school. Right now, those buildings sit empty. After much prayer and discussions with the group who built it (www.chadasha.org), God has made it clear to us that we are to move to Jimaní and start the ministry there. We covet your prayers for a smooth transition and for wisdom and guidance as we take on this task. We hope to put together a video blog within the next week or so to share more of the details, so check back soon!
